Yes! Totally excited I put down the phone. I started a little dance immediately. They said yes! I had a new job. In South-Africa. In Durban.

I loved South-Africa, I lived their before. In Johannesburg. In Durban, I did not know anyone. In itself that did not matter. But my new job, required sales; asked me to find new clients.

How to quickly expand your network?

Selling is quite hard, if you don’t know anyone. Especially when business is mainly done based on existing relationships. So, how would I establish new relationships quickly? I discovered the power of LinkedIn.
Online networking was completely new to me. And it worked. I did have a LinkedIn profile, I just never used LinkedIn. But ever since my move to Durban, I have been hooked.

Fast forward

Now, I am a LinkedIn fan, serious fan. I still love online and offline networking, getting to know new people and I also enjoy connecting people, who can support each other.

In the meantime, I have learned a lot about the use of LinkedIn. I know about the optimisation of your profile, networking (who to invite and who to avoid) and posting with effect. I have followed so many training sessions and implemented these, that I know the possibilities are endless. Get amazing results by just following a few easy steps. Simple yet crucial.

Online vacancies and new jobs

LinkedIn is also the platform where employers and job-seekers can find each other. But I have noticed that many can NOT find each other. Today even I was tagged by a recruiter who was looking for “unfindable” talent. As I have an extensive network and I am active on LinkedIn, tagging me will result in a more visible job vacancy. And I did know someone who was looking for a job like this.

I hear and see a lot of things happening on LinkedIn. Frustration and despair when someone gets rejected for a job. It makes sense to me, as only replying to job vacancies does not work.

Career gap?

Besides that, as career coach, I hear a lot of fear of never getting a job again due to a career gap or due to “being too old”. Luckily I see and hear also many stories where people do get a job. People who create their own job. People who have a job in no-time.

Just luck?

No not here. It is the application of some specific steps. It’s a result of working strategically. If you do that, you WILL find the vacancy you do want. Then YOU will be approached with a job and recruiters will find you.

There are a few -in itself- easy step, which if put together provide something really special. The Magic LinkedIn Mix helps you to land your dream job quicker.
