The past period you have worked a lot from home. And that probably gave you more time than you used to. Plenty more time.
Have you cleaned up your attic, cleaned out your shed and finally made a start with that vegetable garden? Good for you.
But are there still “tasks” waiting for you at the same time? Like, for example, clearing out your wardrobe, or finally putting all your digital photos in a photo album?
If not now, then when?
Then I have news for you: the chance that you will ever do that is very small. Because if you haven’t done it now, now that you have so much more time, it’s likely you’ll never do it.
Everyone is always procrastinating to some level. Especially when you have tasks to do that you do not like at all, or that you are not comfortable with. But there is also such a thing as fooling yourself. Because if you haven’t cleaned up your wardrobe after 2 months, and add all the previous months to it, then it just isn’t going to happen.
And that’s completely ok.
It still requires action, 1 single action
But first, look at your to-do list. For work. Because there you will also most likely find also tasks that you can keep taking from one to-do list to the next, without ever executing them.
Take a look at which tasks have been on your to-do list for quite some time, then answer the following questions:
- How long have these task been on your to-do list?
- Why are they on your to-do list for so long?
- What happens if you don’t do this task at all (probably not that much, because they have been open for months)?
- How do you feel when you finally take it off?
We all tend to (want to) do more than is necessary. More than is necessary to achieve our goals, and often more than we can handle to keep our balance.
Draw a line through it
All the things you have on your to-do list now, and those that have been there for a long time, take them off.
This applies to your to-do list for work, and for private. Because believe me if you haven’t done them now, there’s a reason for it. Which is very likely that they aren’t important enough.
So take that last action: delete those tasks that are endlessly on your to-do list, today. Just don’t do it anymore!
Take back some freedom, now that you are limited in your freedom in so many other areas.
